To get started, tye your yarn around the start peg. Lace your yarn around peg "A", over and above peg "B", back around and above peg "A" (making a figure 8 around the two pegs). You then bring the yarn down and under peg "C".Basic Weaving Instructions for Hexagon Rectangle Weaving Loom Potholder
Continue to lace your yarn in a figure 8 pattern around the peg on the opposite side of the loom and back until you reach the bottom peg marked "First Turn". Bring your yarn behind the peg marked with a Star and turn your entire loom in a clockwise direction 180°, until the star is on top.Basic Weaving Instructions for Hexagon Rectangle Weaving Loom Potholder

Continue to lace your yarn in a figure 8 pattern around the peg on the opposite side of the loom and back until you reach the bottom peg marked "Second Turn". Bring your yarn behind the peg marked with a Star and turn your entire loom in a clockwise direction 90°, until the star is on top. Note that the loom is held in a horizontal position for the last layer to complete the round.Basic Weaving Instructions for Hexagon Rectangle Weaving Loom Potholder
With the star on top note that the loom is now in a horizontal position. Lace your yarn in the same figure "8" pattern as you did above.Basic Weaving Instructions for Hexagon Rectangle Weaving Loom Potholder
Once you get to the bottom peg, you will notice that you are back to the starting position. You have now completed one round. The thickness of your placemat will be determined by how many rounds you complete. For this particular one I began with a slightly bulky yarn for two layers and finished with a worsted weight for the final layer.Basic Weaving Instructions for Hexagon Rectangle Weaving Loom Potholder
Since this loom is so large, I included a photo to demostrate how I hold the loom. I kind of stand it upright on my lap and rest the back of the frame against something else. In this photo I am sitting on the floor and the back of the loom is resting on an ottoman.Basic Weaving Instructions for Hexagon Rectangle Weaving Loom Potholder
